Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does St. Jude India Childcare Centres do?

St.Jude provides free accommodation and holistic support to children travelling with their parents for treatment of cancer from villages and small town to cities. You can read more about our work here.

  • Can St. Jude help pay for my child’s cancer treatment?

Sorry, but St. Jude does not provide financial support for cancer treatment. We provide free of cost accommodation to underprivileged children undergoing cancer treatment.

  • I just found out my child has cancer. How can you help me?

St. Jude has made “The Guide to Childhood Cancer” that is a great resource for anyone who has a child undergoing treatment. In addition to this downloadable booklet available in English, Hindi, Marathi and Bengali, we also have a series of videos that will tell you more about childhood cancer, the side effects of the treatment and the need for good nutrition and hygiene.

  • My cousin’s child has cancer and they want to stay at your centre. Should they just come to the closest one?

No, children and their families are referred to us by social workers at the treatment hospitals. The social workers explain the St. Jude model and ensure the family is prepared for their stay at St. Jude, and then we are able to admit the child, provided we have a unit available.

  • Are you connected to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in the US? Can you help me make an appointment there?

Sorry, but we have no affiliation to this organization and we cannot be of any help in getting you an appointment.

  • Is St. Jude India Childcare Centres run by Christian nuns?

No, St. Jude is not affiliated with any religion. St. Jude is a secular organization that has been named after St. Jude who is the patron saint of lost causes. Families from every background are welcomed at our centres.

  • How long does a family typically stay at your centre?

Cancer treatment takes several months, where the child receives chemotherapy once or twice a month as an outpatient or inpatient but is not admitted to hospital the remainder of the days. Usually families spend 6-8 months to complete their child’s treatment but depending on the case sometimes they can stay as long as two years. The duration of stay is decided by the treating doctors.

  • Can I drop by your centres to see your work and visit the children?

While we welcome visitors, visits are by PRIOR APPOINTMENT only. Our children’s safety, security and wellbeing is our first priority. Kindly send an email to contact@stjudechild.org letting us know the purpose of your visit and someone will get back to you.

  • Do you accept donations in kind?

We have a list of recommended items that you could donate. We request you to send an email to contact@stjudechild.org with details of where you live and what your budget is. Our city centre manager will reach out to you with details of our current requirement.
